  1. How has this course changed your outlook on learning? What’s changed? Why?
The greatest lesson I’ve learned so far is that it’s okay not to know everything and ask for help. I’ve mentioned this in a previous post, but it’s important for me as a perfectionist to remember. In class I feel like I have to understand concepts right away and execute them without any errors. Wrong! When things aren’t working, I have to do research and collaborate with others to figure out the solution, and that’s a great way to learn.
  2. When frustration comes up how do you be with it? What’s your course of action?
When I get frustrated with my work I find it best to pause and come back to it later on. I will either work on something else that’s easier or take some time to meditate or practice yoga. It clears my mind and makes me feel like I accomplished something, so I can go back to what was frustrating me before with a better mindset.
  3. Why should we teach to the whole person rather than to just a skill set? What benefits are there to this method?
I actually love that this class teaches to the whole person. It’s seems like it’s normal these days to get burnt out by your job or let it take over your life. It’s one of the reasons I wanted to go down a new career path in the first place, but when we learn how to take care of ourselves, it can make our work lives much more manageable. For me, it helps create good habits for a better workflow and overall mindset.
  4. How do you feel about your upcoming project? What do you anticipate while working with a classmate?
I would have been a lot more nervous about the final portfolio project if it weren’t for the the barber shop project leading up to it. It makes the final project feel a lot less daunting. We’re not having to work with a partner on this one, but I anticipate that partnering up in the future will help me better understand how working with others will go in a job setting.
  5. What benefits will there be to working with someone else?
Others may have different strengths and ideas, so it’s definitely a learning opportunity to work with someone else.
  6. What challenges could come with this partnership?
A partnership could bring challenges like different work flows, schedules or code preferences, but it’s also another learning opportunity!
